How long are your workshops?

Indoor events are two hours and outdoor events are three hours. We start 15 after the hour to give everyone ample time to arrive and sign in. We allow an additional 15-20 minutes at the end of your event to add finishing touches and personalize your artwork. 
 

What are some good Bars/Restaurants/Cafes
nearby the studio?

Is there a Nearby Store?

Whole Foods Valencia is locatedon the corner of 21st and Valencia, and two additional corner stores reside on the same block.
 

What's your Cancellation Policy?

We have a strict 48 hour cancellation policy for drop-in workshops, which includes reschedules.  If you cancel your reservation within 48 hours of the class, your seats will be forfeited. We can reschedule your seat any time up until this point for another workshop, or keep your credit on file for use in the future.
 

How do I redeem my Gift Certificate?

Gift Certificates are redeemable by email at info@beyondcanvas.com. Please send your name, gift certificate number, and which class(s) you would like to book. We reserve seats based on a first-come, first-serve basis.


 

 Can I leave my painting/craft with you and pick it up later?

We can not hold onto your paintings or other artworks unless you have added on a delivery fee (private events only).
 

Can I bring Wine/Beer/Margaritas?

Most scheduled classes are in BYOB locations, as long as you are 21 + and drink responsibly!  We do not cater private workshops, but we have some great caterers who can hook you up with the right accommodations!
 

Do you have Wine Glasses and Bottle Openers?

We do not provide glassware and recommend your group bring anything related to food and beverage, or inquire with your caterer.
 

Can I Bring Food?

Yes! You can bring any food and snacks you like (valid for scheduled and private classes).
 

CAN I BRING MY DOG?

We love animals! You can bring your animal to any outdoor event, or please inquire with your venue coordinator for their animal policy.
 

What is the age limit?

The age limit for scheduled outdoor painting classes is 12, and any participants under 21 years of age may not participate in drinking alcohol if they attend a private event. Any scheduled BYOB class will have a strict 21+ policy. You are responsible for making sure everyone at a private event is 21+ or abstain from drinking alcohol if underage!

 

I may be late. What Should I do?

We ask that you please arrive on time or up to 15 minutes before to your event to sign in (prefered for outdoor painting classes.  After a 15 minute grace period, your seats may be forfeited to members on a waitlist.  Class starts promptly 15 minutes into the event. There are no exceptions! Please arrive on time!


Frequently Asked Questions - Plein Air

HOW LONG ARE YOUR WORKSHOPS?

Plein Air workshops are three hours in total, which includes guidance on how to set up and break down your own easel and instruction.

 

HOW DOES IT WORK?

Beyond Canvas provides a hands-on demonstration of how to set up and break down your easel, followed by structured guidance on to create a Plein air painting from a professional artist. Your instructor will show you how to break down the  3d view into a 2d artwork.

 

ARE CLASSES BEGINNER FRIENDLY?

Yes, Our classes are catered to all levels. Your instructor will use simple methods an beginner can follow, but also provides modified guidance for those who are more advanced or looking to build on an existing skillset.

 

IS THERE AN EVENT MINIMUM?

There is a 4 person minimum to hold any drop-in event.  If the class does not reach the minimum, you will be notified 48 hours in advance.  Please provide a valid email address and phone number you check regularly so we can reach you.

 

WHAT IS INCLUDED? 


Beyond Canvas ticket price includes base materials, apron to borrow, and instruction. Your Paint Kits (paint, brushes, straight edge, canvas/board) are provided by Flax art and Design and are yours to keep.

WHAT SHOULD I BRING?

Jacket, layers, sunscreen, sunglasses, something to snack on, water..

 

WHERE IS THE EVENT LOCATED?

Check your ticket link for event location and time. Our meeting location for Drop-In San Francisco workshops is Flax Art and Design located at Landmark Building D, 2 Marina Blvd. Please arrive early to pick up materials so you can be on time for the workshop.

 

WHERE CAN I PARK?


There is metered parking ($2 per hour) at Fort Mason Center, and street parking by Marina Boulevard.

 

DO YOU PROVIDE TRANSPORTATION?

We do not currently provide transportation, but stay tuned as things progress

 

ARE THERE RESTROOMS / RESTURANTS / STORE / COFFEE RESTROOM NEARBY?

Yes, restrooms, cafes, restaurants, and coffee are all within walking distance. 
 

CAN I BRING FOOD, WINE, BEER?

Yes, but only to indoor workshops or the Presidio, which are BYOB only if are 21 + and drink responsibly!

 

CAN I LEAVE MY ARTWORK AND PICK IT UP LATER?

No, we can not store artwork.  Any leftover artwork will be adopted, painted over, or thrown away.

WHAT HAPPENS IN BAD WEATHER?

All locations have multiple views, If one area is foggy or windy, your teacher will use an alternative view for instruction, OR we may show you methods to create fog and incorporate diverse climates in your painting.  You are welcome to paint any view, not just the view your instructor is painting. The wind picks up on occasion, so please bring layers and be comfortable with San Francisco weather.  Workshops will only be canceled in the event of severe weather.

 

CAN MY CHILD ATTEND THE WORKSHOP?

We take participants as young as 8 years old. Please inquire if you w would like to schedule a private event with a younger group or email us with any questions.

Private Event Policy

CANCELLATIONS AND RESCHEDULING

We have a strict cancellation policy for private events, which includes reschedules.  Please read your event contract thoroughly and be aware of our cancellation terms before signing.

ADDITIONAL PARTICIPANTS

Please provide your ideal headcount when signing the contract.  We recommend booking for as many participants as you would like to come. If the headcount increases and exceeds the number of participants in your contact, additional fees are applied.

DEPOSIT

We require a signed contract or deposit to hold an event day or time. If you sign a contract, your payment is not due until the day of your event. All contractual agreements remain in tact with the paid deposit.

INVOICE/PAYMENT

Your invoice is due no later than your event day. NO EXCEPTIONS! We accept major credit cards and checks.  If you choose to pay by check, please send it by mail so that it arrives on time to our studio location.  Teachers and assistants can not accept checks and payment on-site the day of the event. If you fail to pay the invoice by the day of your event, a 1.5% increase each week is applied.
