Abstraction is the practice of manipulating shape, line, and color to create a composition that is free from all representational form. Abstract art can take the form of symbolic images and lines, or shape into fields of flat, solid color. The painter’s actions can be spontaneous, automatic, subconscious, or even meditative. Abstract art started in the 1920s and has since resurfaced as several different movements. Well known abstract artists include Jackson Pollock, Wassily Kandinsky, Piet Mondrian and Jean-Michel Basquiat.
This workshop will help you break away from traditional representation and look deeper into your own style. We will guide you through the process and encourage you to paint intuitively. This is not a step by-step-class. Abstraction is a process. It’s an opportunity to watch your painting change through the rewarding and, at times, bumbling process of building a work of art.
